The Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (CTLLS) programme is specifically designed to develop your teaching skills from PTLLS, in the lifelong learning sector.
The course is available at level 4. At level 4, you will be expected to research and analyse teaching and learning theories. This means you will be required to read from relevant authors and reference your assignments using the Harvard referencing system.
The ONLINE DISTANCE LEARNING course has been specifically designed for learners who are too busy to attend a classroom course, and want to fit learning in around their already busy lifestyle. It has been developed to maximise on your teaching and learning experiences - past, current and future.
Why waste time sitting through pointless classroom sessions, when you could be spending the time getting on with your assignments and coursework instead? As a practising teacher, you should be delivering effective teaching and learning already - your assignments and coursework will require you to reflect on this and link them to proven theory.
You set the pace of your course, and this can be as fast or as slow as you like. You will be given access to our Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) where ALL of your assignments, activities, indicative reading and guidelines on how to complete the course are held.
Of course, you can expect full Tutor support and guidance through email (24hrs a day). You will also have the opportunity to submit your work for proof reading to your Tutor through our VLE, and receive accurate feedback to ensure you produce the best results.

You should expect to dedicate 120 hours of your time towards this course. This includes 1-2-1 tutorials with your Tutor, 30 hours teaching practice and 4 x 1 hour teaching observations (120 hours is an estimated guideline, and the amount of time taken to complete the course will depend on your commitment and learning style).
You will need access to a Mentor in your workplace, who is a subject specialist in your area and / or holds a teaching qualification (minimum CTLLS Level 4). They will be responsible for supporting your development as a Teacher whilst on the course.
Your 4 x 1 hour observations can be carried out by your mentor too, using your establishments lesson observation / quality assurance systems and processes. If you don't have these systems in place, then we can observe you instead. A: CTLLS is an abbreviation for the Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector. It is both an introductory course and professional qualification awarded by Edexcel. CTLLS gives a threshold status to teachers wanting to teach. CTLLS is a teaching qualification for all new teachers in further and adult education.
CTLLS is a four unit award, with numerous learning outcomes. The CTLLS award has a credit value of 24 credits on the QCF. It forms part of the DTLLS course, of up to 24 credits; CTLLS can be offered as an integrated unit or as a stand alone award.
If taken as a stand-alone qualification, CTLLS can receive accreditation of prior learning (APL) within DTLLS, and the level 5 subject specialist diplomas for literacy, ESOL and numeracy (maximum of 24 credits).

A: It is a mandatory part of the PTLLS training unit that you are required to do on the PTLLS course. You will receive guidance from your CTLLS trainer on the best way to tackle this.
Q: How does the CTLLS teacher training assessment take place?
A: The CTLLS qualification is assessed using different types of assessments which includes observation of PTLLS micro-teaching, assessment of written assignments, reports, course work and a journal of coaching and dialogue. You will be assessed through a series of written and practical tasks. This is all carried out online via our Virtual Learning Environment.

A: The CTLLS assessment is based on the achievement of specified criteria. Each of the units contains pass criteria for CTLLS unit assessment in each case. You will be assessed on your written CTLLS assignments and your CTLLS train the trainer micro teach session. Also, you will be observed in your workplace carrying out teaching practice. There are no CTLLS exams to be taken at all.
Q: What is the observation requirement for the CTLLS teacher training course?
A: The minimum 15 minutes micro-teach / teaching practice delivery must be observed by the tutor/observer, who must give feedback and complete an observation report provided in the appendices of the qualification handbook. Observations should last for a minimum of 15 minutes for each session. For micro-teaching observation, feedback must be given by the candidate's peer group. There must be a minimum of three peer evaluations per candidate per micro-teaching session. You are then observed for a further 4 x 1 hour sessions carrying out teaching practice.

A: Students are encouraged to assemble a teaching practice portfolio during their CTLLS program. The portfolio should be a brief log of CTLLS micro-teaching and should include their log of 15 minutes micro-teaching, CTLLS teaching practice and evidence involving their session setting up, delivery and assessment.
Q: Is a reflective learning journal required for the CTLLS teach the trainer course?
A: Students should write a thoughtful learning journal from the beginning of the program. Students are allowed to use their own journal during the course or use the format provided in the qualification instruction manual. Candidates must complete a journal entry after each assessment task and practical evaluation and for each session attended all the way through the CTLLS program.
