The HABC Level 3 Train The Trainer course is specifically designed to get you into delivering training within a private, business or corporate environment.

In just 18 hours, the course will give you the basic tools of knowledge to get you off on the right foot for a SUCCESSFUL training career, and enabling you to then progress onto further teacher training programmes in the future such as PTLLS, CTLLS, DTLLS and the Certificate in Education (Cert Ed).

Our trainers are highly qualified, experienced trainers and teachers from a range of industry.  Including secondary schools, further education, Pupil Referral Units (PRU's), military, private training, banking, bid management, marketing and construction management sectors.

Course Outline

 - 2 x 1 Day Intensive Workshops (this includes your Micro Teach)

 - 8 hours self directed study where you are to complete a written assignment that demonstrates your knowledge and understanding of the role of a trainer.

Entry Requirements

1.  Learners MUST be 19 years or older.

2.  You need to have a good level of Literacy in order to complete assignments accurately

3.  An understanding that the course is up to 18 hours in length (2 day classroom and approximately 8 hours self study)

4. You need to be IT literate with access to a computer that has Microsoft office installed.

Q: What is the HABC Level 3 Train The Trainer course?

A: HABC is the abbreviated name for Highfield Awarding Body for Compliance - an awarding body that offers QCF qualifications that are recognised world wide.  The Train the Trainer course is an introductory course and professional qualification awarded by HABC. The Train the Trainer course gives a professional qualification to trainers wanting to train. The Train the Trainer course can lead to PTLLS.  PTLLS is a compulsory qualification for all new teachers in further and adult education.

PTLLS is a one unit award containing five learning outcomes. The PTLLS award has a credit value of 6 credits on the QCF. It forms the first unit of the CTLLS and DTLLS courses; PTLLS can be offered as an integrated unit or as a stand alone award.

If taken as a stand-alone qualification, PTLLS can receive accreditation of prior learning (APL) within CTLLS,  DTLLS, and the level 5 subject specialist diplomas for literacy, ESOL and numeracy (120 credits).

Q: What are the requirements for teachers and trainers wishing to train in industry?

A: Any person that is a trainer or instructor in non educational industry is required to hold a professional Train the Trainer course certificate. 

Q: Who is affected by the teach the trainer PTLLS legislation?

A: All trainers in non educational industry who deliver non funded training to colleagues and in house staff.  Contexts such as: Banking, Business, Marketing, Human Resources, Management, In House Trainers

Q: What are the entry requirements to register for a Train the Trainer training course?

A: There are no formal entry requirements for the Train the Trainer training course qualification, but candidates must be considering a subject for delivery and be aiming to achieve / or have achieved a qualification and experience for their subject at the appropriate level. Q: What is the duration of the train the trainer teacher training course?

A: The Train the Trainer training course will last for 18 hours. This is a combination of 2 x 1 day workshops and 8 hours of self study

Q: How long will it take to complete the entire train the trainer course?

A: You will be able to complete your training course within 18 hours. This is 2 x 1 day workshops, and approximately 8 hours of self study.

Q: Should I already be a train the trainer / PTLLS teacher?

A: It is not a compulsory that you should already be a trainer. It is of benefit however if you already are a teacher, trainer, tutor or instructor.  You can link your previous experience to your assignments and theory.

Q: Can any of my previous knowledge be accredited for the train the trainer course?

A: Unfortunately, your previous knowledge does not get accredited.  However, it will make the Train the Trainer training course a lot easier for you.

Q: Do I need previous train the trainer teaching experience?

A: No previous teaching experience is needed to start the Train the Trainer training course.

Q: Will I have to teach on the train the trainer training course?

A: Part of your training course is called micro-teaching where you have a practical part practicing actual teaching. This lasts for 15 minutes where you will teach a course subject to a small group. You then also have to observe 3 other train the trainer micro teach sessions and give feedback. This is part of your Train the Trainer training course.

Q: What subjects will I have to teach during my train the trainer micro-teaching session?

A: You can do your PTLLS micro-teaching session on any topic that you wish.

Q: Is the micro-teaching compulsory on the train the trainer training course?

A: It is a mandatory part of the Train the Trainer training course that you are required to do.  You will receive guidance from your Train the Trainer training course trainer on the best way to tackle this.

Q: How does the train the trainer assessment take place?

A: This Train the Trainer training course qualification is centre assessed using different types of assessments which includes Train the Trainer training course micro-teaching & assessment of a written assignment.

Q: How am I assessed during the train the trainer training course?

A: The Train the Trainer training course assessment is based on the achievement of specified criteria. Each of the units contains pass criteria for Train the Trainer training course unit assessment in each case. You will be assessed on your written Train the Trainer training course assignment and your Train the Trainer training course micro teach session.  There are no Train the Trainer training course exams to be taken at all.

Q: What is the observation requirement for the train the trainer training course?

A: The minimum 15 minutes micro-teach / teaching practice delivery must be observed by the tutor/observer, who must give feedback and complete an observation report provided in the appendices of the qualification handbook. Observations should last for a minimum of 15 minutes for each session. For micro-teaching observation, feedback must be given by the candidate's peer group. There must be a minimum of three peer evaluations per candidate per micro-teaching session.

A: After successful completion of your Train the Trainer training course qualification, you will be able to teach in the life long learning sector as required by the new reforms.

Q: How much train the trainer teaching practice is required?

A: Train the Trainer training course students are requisite to undertake a minimum of 15 minutes micro-teaching, with 45 minutes observing other micro teach sessions.  Full guidance is provided in the qualification handbook and by your Train the Trainer training course trainer.

Q: Is a reflective learning journal required for the train the trainer course?

A: No, a reflective journal is not required for the Train the Trainer training course.
